RULES FOR
WEEKEND ATHLETES

Athletes
Most people do not have the luxury of being able to be in top physical condition, especially as they become older, and their career and family activities take priority. Yet, they enjoy sports.

The mistake they make is they try to cram too much physical activity into their short leisure time, usually without enough physical preparation. To avoid health problems, the weekend athlete should take a preventive approach: get a complete chiropractic structural health examination before participating in athletic activities and then follow-up by visiting the doctor of chiropractic on a regular basis for maintenance. This is the best way to correct structural imbalances and distortions of the spine, which can cause various health problems and reduce physical performance.

To Be Safe, The Sports Participant Should Maintain Good Spinal Health

Follow These Rules To Help Prevent Structural Health Problems

Exercises

Most people enjoy participation in sports and athletics. But unfortunately, the time and weather factor separates the enthusiast from his or her favorite physical activity. So what often happens is the sports participant tries to cram all the fun into the weekend. That's where the trouble and health problems start. Following are rules to help prevent structural health problems. To be safe, the sports participant should visit a doctor of chiropractic often.

  1. Try to stay in condition year round. Establish an exercise routine for off season.
  2. Establish a schedule of maintenance exercises that can be used during the week as well. It need not be too time consuming or aggressive, but regular.
  3. Don't overdo your weekend participation. Learn to pace yourself and recognize when you are tired.
  4. Don't try to prove how strong you are or young you feel. Act your age and engage only in activities in keeping with your age and physical condition.
  5. Be careful of fast starts and stops, twisting, unusual positions and jarring body contact.
  6. If you should suffer an injury or pulled muscle, don't put off treatment. See a doctor of chiropractic immediately to avoid serious complications.
