currently the 3rd largest healthcare system in the world,
was founded in 1895 by D.D. Palmer. It is the intention of a chiropractic
physician to identify the underlying cause of a patient's condition, and then
to correct the problem.
Chiropractic is a conservative, drug-less, non-surgical approach to health
care that utilizes the adjustment of a subluxation to restore normal joint
motion, thereby allowing normal nerve function and allowing the body to heal
itself. The chiropractic subluxation can be any abnormal motion of any two
neighboring joint surfaces. This alteration interferes with normal
circulation, muscle and nerve function.
A chiropractic doctor must hold a minimum of a two year bachelor's degree,
followed by four years of chiropractic college, and ending with a clinical
internship program. To practice chiropractic in a given state, the doctor
must have attained a doctor of chiropractic degree from an accredited college,
A chiropractic physician provides treatment to patients of all ages by
manipulating or adjusting the spine, or any joint for that matter, to improve
joint motion. The adjustment is a specific and directional movement carried
out by hand or instrumentation with purpose and forethought. In addition,
the doctor may use physical therapy modalities such as electrical muscle
stimulation, ultrasound, hotpacks, cold, massage, exercise, nutritional support
or life style changes. The chiropractic doctor is also trained in taking
diagnostic x-rays. Treatment is monitored by periodic evaluations and as the
patient improves, frequency is decreased.
If you have experienced or currently experience any of the following
symptoms or problems, chiropractic may be able to help you:
hold a state
license and maintain yearly continuing educational requirements.
